Program Introduction
Keeping in view the educational needs of our future leaders in the national government, civil society institutions and international organizations; to achieve excellent levels of distinction in teaching and research by transmitting knowledge and understanding that are needed to transform the young people of Pakistan into politically enlightened persons and to make students understand and realize various issues in the region, contemporary world politics & relevant issues and to provide training that would enable them to make a significant contribution in the future.
Programs Objectives
The M.Phil. in Politics & IR is designed to develop knowledge and providing research and learning opportunities in the field of Politics& IR. This program will specifically focus on providing strong theoretical and methodological base to its participants.
Main objective of the program is to develop an exciting and supportive learning environment that is helpful in high quality research and related learning activities, including debates, seminars, and lectures. The students of Politics & IR should have the abilities to:
1. Pursue Higher Education in Politics
Continue academic growth by leveraging acquired skills and knowledge in Politics to pursue advanced studies and specialization in the field.
2. Enhance Critical Thinking and Analytical Skills
Develop the ability to critically evaluate political issues and strengthen analytical thinking, becoming confident researchers, informed observers, active policymakers, and effective educators.
3. Professionalism, Lifelong Learning, and Leadership
Exhibit professionalism, leadership, and commitment to continuous learning in careers such as politics, public service, law, teaching, research, and other related fields within governmental and non-governmental sectors.
4. Understanding Contemporary Political Issues
Gain a deep understanding of regional and global political issues, and effectively communicate developments in Politics and International Relations to diverse audiences and stakeholders.
5. Study of Theoretical and Practical Aspects of Politics
Engage in a systematic exploration of both theoretical frameworks and practical applications of Politics and International Relations, constructing and evaluating well-reasoned arguments.
6. Civic Education and Social Responsibility
Educate students about their rights and societal obligations, encouraging them to actively contribute to the development of state and society through informed participation.
Rationale of the Program
With basic knowledge of institutions, processes and values that shape politics within and among states, and the major theories, concepts, foundations, and methodologies used in the study of politics and IR, will be able to identify the structure and operations of Pakistani and other political systems, and to define and apply concepts and theories in political science and international relations.

Admission Eligibility Criteria
- A./M.Sc./BS 4-Yrs in International Relations, Political Science, Defense and Strategic Studies, Diplomacy and Strategic Studies, History, Pakistan Studies, Mass Communications, Journalism, Area Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies, Sociology and Media Studies.
- 2nd division in above mentioned degrees
- A rigorous admission test as an eligibility condition for admission to MS/MPhil with a passing score of 50%.
8. Duration of the Program
- Minimum Duration: 2 years; through 4 regular semesters (Fall/Spring)
- Minimum Credits for Regular 2 Years MS/M.Phil: 30 Credits
- Work Load per Semester: 3 Courses/9Credits
