Associate Degree in Psychology (2 Years)

Program Mission

To produce scientifically and professionally competent graduates in the field of Psychology who are equipped to play a significant role in the continuing transformation of the society. To equip the students with requisite knowledge and skills which would help them taking an early start of their professional career so that they can earn their livings and support their families too.

Program Objectives (PO)

Following are the main objectives of the Program:

PO1. Acquire a strong intellectual foundation in psychological sciences.

PO2. Understand and apply psychological principles to individual, social, and organizational issues.

PO3. Understand and apply basic research methods and experimental design principles and to use descriptive and inferential statistical methods to describe and evaluate empirical data. PO4. Respect and use critical and creative thinking, skeptical inquiry, and, when possible, the scientific approach to evaluate problems related to behavior and mental processes.

PO5. Demonstrate effective writing skills and exhibit effective presentation skills as part of professional development

PO6. Understand the ethical and social responsibility of practicing psychological interventions for the betterment of society in a diverse environment.

Program Learning Outcomes (PLO)

At the end of the 2 year of Associative Degree program the Students will be able to:

PLO1. Demonstrate psychology information literacy by describing key concepts, principles, and overarching themes in psychology.

PLO2.Develop a working knowledge of psychology‟s content domains by engaging in innovative and integrative thinking and problem solving

PLO3.Describe various practical applications of psychology in clinical, academic and research settings

PLO4.Identify and describe different research methods used by psychologists.

PLO5.Design and carry out a research study to test a hypothesis.

PLO6.Interpret, design, and conduct basic psychological research

PLO7.Analyze and evaluate arguments, findings, and claims about psychological phenomena in the popular media and in the psychological research literature.

PLO8.Demonstrate effective writing skills and exhibit effective presentation skills

PLO9.Apply psychological content and skills to career goals and develop meaningful professional direction for life after graduation

Teaching Techniques

The following techniques shall be used/ applied during the study:

  • Before commencement of a course the teacher concerned shall give a detailed teaching scheme to the students. It shall comprise of the topics to be taught on weekly basis with the relevant sources of the reading materials.

  • Within four weeks after commencement of a semester, the teacher concerned shall assign the topic of the assignments to the students either individually or in groups. These assignments must be completed and submitted by the students at least four weeks before the final exam. In this regard the concerned teacher shall properly guide the students.

  • Presentations will be made essential for all the students in the class for each course.

  • Demonstration will be made essential for all the students in the class for the course of Experimental Psychology and Practical and Psychological Assessment and Practical.

  • Regular seminars and workshops should be held in the department on monthly basis.

    Eligibility Criteria

    • Intermediate (equivalent to 12 years of education) with at least 45% marks from an institution recognized by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan / Inter Board Committee of Chairmen, Pakistan.

    • Candidates having „A‟ levels are required to provide equivalence certificate from Inter Board Committee of Chairman (IBCC), Islamabad.

    • Candidates having less than 45% marks will be eligible for admission after the successful completion of “Zero Semester”.

    • Subject to policy/applicability, the candidate shall pass the Entrance Test as required by the HEC.

Program Structure

Duration: It is a two-year full time study program spread over four semesters (Fall/Spring). Each semester has at least 18 weeks duration for teaching and examinations etc.
