World Oceans Day is celebrated every year on June 8 to highlight the vital role of oceans in sustaining life on Earth. Recognized by the United Nations in 2008, this day spreads awareness about protecting marine ecosystems, promoting sustainable use of ocean resources, and addressing global challenges like pollution and climate change. Oceans produce over half of the world’s oxygen, regulate climate, and support the livelihoods of millions of people. Each year, World Oceans Day is observed with a special theme, encouraging collective action for the health of our planet. Lahore Leads University also emphasizes the importance of this global day, encouraging students and the community to take part in preserving our oceans for human survival and future generations.
