Establishment of Leads Incubation Center

  1. Introduction

The Office of Research, Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC) is pleased to propose the establishment of the Leads Incubation Center (LINC) at Lahore Leads University (LLU). The proposed center aims to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and self-employment among students and alumni by providing structured support for startup development and commercialization of innovative ideas.

To establish a sustainable and enabling ecosystem at LLU that nurtures innovation, promotes entrepreneurship, and accelerates enterprise development.

The key objectives of the Leads Incubation Center (LINC) are to:

  • Encourage and support young entrepreneurs interested in starting their own businesses.
  • Provide mentorship, networking opportunities, and access to essential startup resources.
  • Offer co-working space to early-stage entrepreneurs and student-led startups.
  • Facilitate engagement with experienced entrepreneurs, industry experts, and business leaders.
  • Organize seminars, workshops, and training sessions on business planning, marketing, and commercialization.
  • Convert innovative ideas and research outputs into viable and scalable startups.
  • Conduct startup competitions and business plan challenges to stimulate entrepreneurial culture.

  1. Operational Framework

The operational structure of the Leads Incubation Center will be as follows:

  • Governance and Oversight
    The Incubation Center will function directly under the Office of Research, Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC), which will provide strategic direction, administrative support, and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Management and Leadership
    The Deputy Director (Innovation & Commercialization) will serve as the Head of LINC and will be responsible for:
  • Strategic planning and leadership
  • Policy formulation and implementation
  • Overall management and performance oversight
  • Business Development Support
    A Business Development Officer (BDO) will assist in the operational functioning of LINC and report directly to the Deputy Director. The BDO will be responsible for:
  • Operational coordination and startup facilitation
  • Supporting incubates in business development activities
  • External outreach and stakeholder engagement
  • Maintaining records of startups, progress reports, performance indicators, and internal documentation.

Functions of the Leads Incubation Center

  1. The Leads Incubation Center (LINC) will serve as a dynamic platform to nurture innovative ideas and support aspiring young entrepreneurs, fostering a vibrant startup culture at the University. The Center will motivate students to translate creative ideas into viable business ventures through structured support, mentorship, and resources. The key functions of LINC are outlined below:

    1. Idea Development and Evaluation
    • Provide structured mentoring, research assistance, and advisory support to help students refine and validate their business ideas.
    • Assess the technical feasibility, market potential, scalability, and sustainability of proposed ventures.
    1. Business Mentorship and Professional Guidance
    • Facilitate access to experienced industry professionals, business leaders, and domain experts.
    • Offer strategic guidance in business planning, financial management, marketing strategies, operations, and governance.
    1. Training and Organizational Development
    • Organize workshops, seminars, and capacity-building programs on entrepreneurship, innovation management, problem-solving, leadership, and startup management.
    • Develop entrepreneurial mindsets and practical skills among students and early-stage founders.
    1. Infrastructure and Workspace Facilities
    • Provide shared co-working spaces, meeting rooms, and essential office facilities to incubated startups.
    • Ensure access to digital tools, software, and basic technical resources required for product and service development.
    1. Networking and Industry Linkages
    • Establish strong linkages with industry partners, investors, accelerators, and corporate stakeholders.
    • Organize networking sessions, idea pitch competitions, startup exhibitions, and industry interaction forums.
    1. Access to Funding Opportunities
    • Support startups in identifying and securing funding opportunities, including grants, seed funding.
    • Assist entrepreneurs in developing compelling business plans, financial projections, and investor-ready pitch presentations.
    1. Intellectual Property (IP) Support
    • Provide guidance on the protection of intellectual property, including patents, copyrights, and trademarks.
    • Facilitate commercialization, technology transfer, and licensing of innovative products and solutions.
    1. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Impact Assessment
    • Monitor the progress of incubated startups through defined milestones, performance indicators, and periodic reviews.
    • Evaluate outcomes to ensure continuous improvement, accountability, and long-term sustainability of incubated ventures.

Roles of the Head, Leads Incubation Center

  1. The Head Leads Incubation Center (LINC), will be responsible for the effective planning, coordination, and execution of incubation activities. The key roles and responsibilities include the following:

    • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and innovation-driven environment where startups can learn from one another, exchange ideas, and grow collectively.
    • Provide hands-on mentorship and advisory support to incubated startups in key functional areas, including business planning, financial management, marketing strategies, and operational execution.
    • Develop, maintain, and strengthen a robust network of industry experts, mentors, investors, and corporate partners to support startup growth and commercialization.
    • Plan and organize training programs, seminars, workshops, and capacity-building sessions aimed at enhancing the entrepreneurial, technical, and managerial skills of startup founders.
    • Supervise, guide, and coordinate with the Business Development Officer to monitor startup progress, track performance against defined milestones, and ensure timely reporting.
    • Lead the screening, evaluation, and selection of suitable candidates and startup teams for incubation and acceleration programs, in line with the Center’s objectives and selection criteria.
